Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 fish fillets (cod, tilapia, haddock or other white fish, approx. 46 oz each)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for GF option)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular/gluten-free breadcrumbs)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: 1 tsp dried herbs (parsley, dill etc.)
  • Cooking spray or light oil spray (avocado or olive oil preferred)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Fish: Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels to remove all excess moisture, which helps the coating stick better and promotes crispiness.
  2. Set Up the Coating Stations: On separate plates or shallow bowls, place the flour mixed with salt and pepper, beat the egg in a bowl, and mix breadcrumbs with paprika, garlic powder, and optional dried herbs on another plate.
  3. Coat the Fillets: Lightly dredge each fillet in the seasoned flour, dip it into the beaten egg, then press firmly into the breadcrumb mixture to ensure an even, thorough coating.
  4. Preheat and Arrange in Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or line with parchment paper designed for air frying. Place the coated fish fillets in a single layer without overlapping.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Air fry the fillets for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through cooking. Cook until the fillets are golden brown and the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Notes

  • Choose firm, white fish to prevent fillets from falling apart during cooking.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary to maintain crispiness.
  • Use a light spray of oil on the coating to improve browning without adding excess fat.
  • Adjust cooking time for thicker or thinner fillets accordingly.
  • Season each layer (flour and breadcrumbs) to enhance overall flavor depth.
