Caramel Apple Cobbler

Caramel Apple Cobbler

Caramel Apple Cobbler is a warm, gooey fall dessert featuring tender baked apples coated in rich caramel sauce, topped with a crispy, buttery crust. This comforting and versatile dessert blends classic autumn flavors with a simple preparation, perfect for family gatherings and cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 6 cups tart apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)

Cobbler Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces (or vegan butter for vegan version)
  • 23 tablespoons milk or liquid of choice
  • Additional caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: Peel, core, and slice the apples into even pieces. Toss them with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until evenly coated. Stir in half of the caramel sauce to infuse flavor.
  2. Make the Cobbler Topping: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Lightly stir in milk or your liquid of choice just until combined to maintain a tender crust.
  3. Assemble the Cobbler: Spread the apple filling evenly into a greased baking dish. Dollop the topping over the apples in spoonfuls, leaving gaps so steam can escape and the filling can bubble through. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top for extra gooeyness.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apple filling is bubbling hot. Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

  • Choose firm, tart apples like Granny Smith to hold their shape and avoid a mushy filling.
  • Do not overmix the cobbler topping to keep the crust flaky and tender.
  • Drizzle extra caramel sauce before and after baking for maximum gooey richness.
  • Use a glass or ceramic baking dish for even baking and beautiful browning.
  • Allow the cobbler to rest for 10-15 minutes after baking to thicken and intensify flavors.
