Cheeseburger Pie is a comforting and irresistible dinner that captures the classic flavors of a cheeseburger in a flaky, golden pie crust. Featuring a savory ground beef filling seasoned with onions, pickles, ketchup, and mustard, and topped with melted sharp cheddar cheese, this hearty dish is perfect for family dinners or satisfying cravings any night of the week. Easy to prepare and customizable, it’s a one-dish wonder that brings nostalgic comfort with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean or regular)
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped pickles
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 beaten egg (optional)

Crust

  • 1 prepared pie crust (regular, whole wheat, or gluten-free)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat. Add diced onions and sauté until softened. Stir in ketchup, mustard, chopped pickles, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors evenly.
  2. Assemble the Pie: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a pie dish. Evenly spoon the beef mixture into the crust. Sprinkle the shredded sharp cheddar cheese generously over the filling. If desired, crack the beaten egg over the top to help bind the filling while baking.
  3. Bake the Cheeseburger Pie: Place the pie in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Monitor the crust edges and cover them with foil if they brown too quickly to prevent burning.
  4. Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes to allow the filling to set and retain its juices. Slice and serve warm, optionally garnished with chopped parsley or chives and a side of ketchup or mustard.

Notes

  • Use sharp cheddar cheese for better melting and authentic cheeseburger flavor.
  • Drain excess grease from cooked beef to avoid a soggy crust.
  • Chill the pie crust before baking to achieve a flakier, well-shaped crust.
  • Stir fillings thoroughly to distribute pickles and condiments in every bite.
  • Let the pie rest before slicing to firm up and keep the filling intact for cleaner slices.
