Ingredients
Scale
Syrup Base
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 cup water
Spices
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cinnamon stick or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Finishing
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix the brown sugar, molasses, and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture starts to simmer gently.
- Add Spices: Add the ground ginger, cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. Stir to combine and let the syrup simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
- Cool and Infuse: Remove the pan from heat, take out the cinnamon stick if using, then stir in the vanilla extract. Let the syrup cool completely to thicken slightly and develop flavor.
- Strain and Store: Use a fine mesh sieve to strain out any spice bits for a smooth syrup. Pour the syrup into a clean jar or bottle, seal tightly, and refrigerate.
Notes
- Perfect sweetness: Taste the syrup while cooking and adjust sugar amounts if you prefer less sweetness.
- Use fresh spices for best flavor and aroma.
- Simmer gently to allow full flavor development without burning.
- Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 3 weeks.
- Shake before use as syrup may thicken when chilled.
