  • Yield: About 1 1/2 cups syrup 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

This homemade Gingerbread Syrup for Coffee combines rich molasses, brown sugar, and warm spices to create a comforting and festive flavor that transforms any cup of coffee into a seasonal treat. Easy to make with simple pantry ingredients, this syrup is perfect for chilly days and can also be used in teas, hot chocolate, and desserts for a cozy, nostalgic touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Syrup Base

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 cup water

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Finishing

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix the brown sugar, molasses, and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture starts to simmer gently.
  2. Add Spices: Add the ground ginger, cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. Stir to combine and let the syrup simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
  3. Cool and Infuse: Remove the pan from heat, take out the cinnamon stick if using, then stir in the vanilla extract. Let the syrup cool completely to thicken slightly and develop flavor.
  4. Strain and Store: Use a fine mesh sieve to strain out any spice bits for a smooth syrup. Pour the syrup into a clean jar or bottle, seal tightly, and refrigerate.

Notes

  • Perfect sweetness: Taste the syrup while cooking and adjust sugar amounts if you prefer less sweetness.
  • Use fresh spices for best flavor and aroma.
  • Simmer gently to allow full flavor development without burning.
  • Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 3 weeks.
  • Shake before use as syrup may thicken when chilled.
