Ingredients

Scale

Fish

  • Fresh trout fillets (4 fillets, about 6 oz each)

Seasonings & Flavorings

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs (such as parsley or dill), about 2 tablespoons chopped
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced plus extra for juicing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare your trout: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure the trout cooks evenly with a crisp outside and tender inside. Rinse the trout fillets under cold water and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to prevent sogginess.
  2. Season the trout: Drizzle olive oil evenly over both sides of each trout fillet. Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Add the minced garlic on top, scatter fresh herb leaves either on top or tucked inside the fillets, and place thin lemon slices over each piece to infuse flavor during baking.
  3. Bake the trout: Arrange the seasoned trout fillets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased to prevent sticking. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the flesh flakes easily when tested with a fork, signaling it is perfectly cooked.
  4. Final touch and serve: Remove the trout from the oven and squeeze extra fresh lemon juice on top for a bright, fresh finish. Garnish with additional fresh herbs if desired and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Freshness counts: Use the freshest trout possible for optimal flavor and texture.
  • Don’t overcook: Watch the fish carefully to avoid dryness; aim for tender, flaky flesh.
  • Use parchment paper: Helps prevent sticking and simplifies cleanup.
  • Pat dry before seasoning: Removing moisture from the surface ensures better browning and texture.
  • Adjust oven rack: Position the baking sheet in the center of the oven for even heat distribution.
