Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Filling

  • 68 fresh ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Cobbler Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free version)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or dairy-free for vegan option)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (or plant-based butter for vegan version)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peaches: Peel, pit, and slice the fresh peaches into thick, even slices. Toss them gently with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and a dash of nutmeg. This mixture will release juices and develop rich flavor during baking.
  2. Make the Cobbler Batter: In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk. Stir gently until smooth. Cut cold butter into small pieces and fold them in carefully to create a flaky texture in the crust.
  3. Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the peach mixture into a greased baking dish. Spoon the batter evenly over the peaches, allowing it to naturally spread without pressing down.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the cobbler for 40-45 minutes until the fruit juices bubble around the edges and the crust turns golden brown.
  5. Cool and Serve: Let the cobbler cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. This resting period thickens the juices and sets the crust for the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Notes

  • Use ripe, juicy peaches for the best flavor and sweetness.
  • Don’t overmix the batter; stirring gently keeps the crust tender and flaky.
  • Use cold butter cut into small pieces for a crispier, flakier cobbler topping.
  • Look for bubbling juices around the edges as an indicator that the cobbler is fully baked.
  • Allow the cobbler to rest before serving to let the filling thicken and the crust set properly.
